Purvottar Aadi Mahotsav: Celebrating Adivasi Culture in Guwahati
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED) organized the “Purvottar Aadi Mahotsav,” an eight-day National Tribal Festival in Guwahati, Assam. This event celebrates the craft, cuisine, and culture of the Adivasi community. Held at the Veterinary College Playground, Khanapara, the festival features 104 stalls, including 10 food stalls and 84 stalls showcasing craft, jewelry, textiles, art, and paintings by Adivasi artisans.
Over 200 artisans and artists from various states are participating, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting tribal development. Dalimi Pait, a Mising tribe weaver from Assam, shared her success story, highlighting increased income through TRIFED initiatives. Phudang Rebon Tokbipi, an entrepreneur from Karbi Anglong, praised the event for promoting self-employment among tribal people.
The festival includes Adivasi art, craft, tribal medicine, cuisine, and folk performances from 13 states. Sumgailu, an entrepreneur from Nagaland, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to showcase products. Partha Pratim Talukdar from the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship discussed the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana, which supports tribal beneficiaries through Van Dhan Kendras in Assam.
