Purabi Dairy Launches Long Shelf-Life Flavoured Milk in Assam

Kamrup (Assam) [India], September 28: Purabi, the largest cooperative dairy brand in Northeast India, has introduced a new range of long shelf-life flavoured milk. This launch is part of a significant brand expansion across different regions.

The flavoured milk is produced in a state-of-the-art facility at Purabi Dairy in Panjabari, developed under the World Bank-funded APART project by the Assam government. The launch event, ‘Purabi Xondhiya,’ was attended by intellectuals, artists, sportspersons, and stakeholders. Assam’s Minister for Cooperation, Nandita Gorlosa, introduced three flavours: Mango, Strawberry, and Kesar.

Minister Gorlosa emphasized the importance of this launch for Assam, stating, ‘Purabi is not just a brand; it represents the heart of the Assamese people. It is the dream of our Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to uplift the farmers of the state.’ The goal is to produce 10 lakh litres of milk daily in Assam.

Dr. Kalyan Chakravarthy, Principal Secretary Cooperation, Assam Government, congratulated Team Purabi on this achievement. The launch aligns with Chief Minister Sarma’s vision of increasing milk production in the state. Purabi Dairy, under the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL), has significantly improved the livelihoods of thousands of farmers in Assam.

SB Bose, Managing Director of North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), expressed gratitude for the support from the people of Assam. SK Parida, Managing Director of WAMUL, highlighted the success of their ice cream launch in March 2024 and expressed excitement about expanding their product line further.

The new flavoured milk will be available in 180ml PP bottles with a shelf life of five months, allowing for greater market penetration and distribution. This initiative will provide new opportunities for milk producers in Assam, enabling their products to reach remote areas.
