Punjab Police’s Big Operation Against Drugs Led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched a major operation to combat drugs in the state. The Punjab Police have arrested 254 people, registered 221 FIRs, and seized Rs 15.71 lakh in drug money.

Operation ‘EAGLE-IV’

The operation, named ‘EAGLE-IV,’ involved over 4000 police personnel and targeted drug hotspots across the state. Senior officers from the Punjab Police Headquarters joined local police to conduct the operation from 8 am to 2 pm in all 28 police districts.

Three-Pronged Strategy

The government is using a three-pronged strategy of Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention to eradicate drugs. Special DGP Arpit Shukla emphasized the importance of tracing the linkages of drug cases and taking strict action against those involved.

Drone Vigilance

To combat drug smuggling from across the border, strict vigilance is being kept on drone movements. Since September 2019, 906 drone sightings have been reported, with 187 drones successfully recovered.

Property Forfeiture

The Punjab Police have forfeited 459 properties worth Rs 200 crores of major drug smugglers and have 559 more proposals to freeze properties worth Rs 246 crores pending.

Results of the Operation

During the operation, police teams checked 4575 suspicious persons and recovered 2.6 kg of heroin, 83 kg of poppy husk, 2.6 kg of ganja, 550 grams of opium, 7553 intoxicant tablets, and a large quantity of illicit liquor.
