Punjab Police Seize 66 Kg of Opium and Arrest Smugglers from Jharkhand

Fazilka police in Punjab have made a significant breakthrough by seizing 66 kilograms of opium and arresting two individuals involved in smuggling the drug from Jharkhand.

Biggest Opium Recovery of the Decade

Director General of Police Punjab (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared on social media that this operation is one of the biggest interstate opium smuggling busts. The police also froze Rs1.86 crore in 42 bank accounts linked to the smugglers.

Arrests and Seizures

On June 27, Punjab police arrested three operatives of Lawrence Bishnoi and foreign-based Goldy Brar, who were planning target killings in Bathinda, Mohali, and nearby areas. The police recovered three pistols, six live cartridges, six magazines, and a Hyundai Verna car.

Drug Disposal Program

On World Drug Day, observed on June 26, the Punjab Police organized a drug disposal program at ten locations, destroying a significant consignment at the disposal site in Mohali. The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a United Nations initiative observed annually since 1989.
