Punjab Police Officer Nirdosh Kaur Arrested for Taking Bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nirdosh Kaur from the Women Cell in Ludhiana and her Reader Beant Singh. They were caught attempting to take a bribe of Rs 30,000.

How It Happened

Pritpal Kumar, a resident of Goudha village in Bathinda district, filed a complaint against the officers. He explained that his nephew Ashwani Kumar’s marriage had turned sour, leading to a complaint filed by Ashwani’s wife at the Women Cell in Ludhiana. During the investigation, Beant Singh introduced Pritpal to ACP Nirdosh Kaur and demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to resolve the complaint. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs 60,000.

The Sting Operation

On July 29, 2024, Beant Singh took Rs 30,000 as the first installment in the presence of ACP Kaur. The remaining amount was to be paid on August 1, 2024. Pritpal recorded the bribe demand and payment, providing this evidence to the VB. Following a preliminary inquiry, an FIR was registered, and a trap was set. Both officers were arrested while accepting the second installment of Rs 30,000 in the presence of official witnesses.
