Punjab Police Conduct Statewide Searches for Independence Day Safety

Chandigarh (Punjab), August 6: The Punjab Police carried out special cordon and search operations (CASOs) at bus stands across the state to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations. The operations, directed by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, took place from 1 pm to 3 pm in all 28 police districts.

Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla personally monitored the state-level operation. He instructed all Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendents of Police (CPs/SSPs) to ensure thorough searches at bus stands with the maximum number of police teams under the supervision of SP rank officers. The CPs/SSPs were also asked to check all vehicles parked around bus stands using the Vahan app.

Special DGP Arpit Shukla emphasized that police personnel were instructed to be friendly and polite while frisking people. A total of 393 patrolling parties, involving 2500 police personnel, were deployed to look for suspicious persons at different bus stands, ensuring minimal inconvenience to the public. During the operation, 2493 people were checked at 195 bus stands, and four persons were rounded up for questioning. Additionally, 3174 vehicles were checked, resulting in 205 challans and 11 impounded vehicles.

Special DGP Arpit Shukla stated that such operations would continue to maintain peace and harmony in the border state.
