Punjab Police Bust Two Drug Cartels Backed by Pakistan-Based Smugglers

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], June 28: Punjab police have successfully dismantled two cross-border drug smuggling cartels operated by Pakistan-based smugglers. They arrested three traffickers and seized a total of 9.2 kg of heroin.

First Operation

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, revealed that police teams from Chheharta Sahib, acting on reliable inputs, apprehended two drug smugglers in the Shiva Enclave area of Rajasansi. The arrested individuals, Bachitar Singh from Jathaul village and Sunny from Guru ki Wadali, were found with 8.2 kg of heroin. Bachitar Singh was also a proclaimed offender in a 2021 murder case. The police recovered Rs 95,000, an electronic weighing machine, and impounded their Swift car. An FIR has been registered under sections 21-C and 23/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Chheharta Police Station.

Second Operation

In another operation, DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that police teams from Ranjit Avenue, acting on intelligence inputs, set up a Nakabandi at Ranjit Avenue Bypass. They arrested Amandeep Singh from Ranian village, Lopoke, and seized 1 kg of heroin from his possession. His Volkswagen Vento car was also impounded. An FIR has been registered under section 21-C of the NDPS Act at Ranjit Avenue Police Station.

Further Investigations

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar, Ranjit Singh Dhillon, shared that preliminary investigations indicate the accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers who used drones to smuggle drugs into the state. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers, and buyers. Efforts are being made to determine the total amount of narcotics procured by the arrested individuals.
