Punjab Police Arrests Rajwant Singh for Cross-Border Smuggling
Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], August 6: Amidst special drives for peaceful Independence Day celebrations, Punjab Police has busted a cross-border smuggling module. They arrested Rajwant Singh, an operative of a Pakistan-based smuggler.
Details of the Arrest
Rajwant Singh, also known as Raju, is from Attalgarh village in Amritsar. Police recovered two 9MM Glock pistols, two magazines, and a motorcycle (CT-100, PB02AL7481) from him. He was on his way to deliver the consignment near Khurmanian Morh on Attari-Amritsar Road.
Police Statements
Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar received intelligence about Singh’s activities. Acting swiftly, the police cordoned off the area and apprehended him.
AIG SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann revealed that Singh had been receiving drugs and weapons from Pakistan-based smuggler Rana Dyal for some time. These were meant for local buyers.
Legal Actions
A case (FIR No. 46 dated 04.08.2024) has been registered under various sections of the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act at Police Station SSOC Amritsar. Singh will be produced in court for police remand.
