Punjab Police Arrests Drug Smugglers and Seizes 6.65 Kg of Heroin Near Indo-Pak Border
Ferozpur (Punjab) [India] August 8: Punjab Police arrested two drug smugglers and recovered 6.65 kg of heroin, worth Rs 6 Lakhs, near the Indo-Pak border in Ferozepur district. The operation was conducted by the Counter Intelligence Amritsar (CIA) team of District Ferozpur based on technical inputs.
DGP Punjab Police Gaurav Yadav announced on Thursday that an FIR was registered against the drug dealers on Wednesday, and the police are investigating the case to uncover the trans-border narcotic smuggling networks. He emphasized that Punjab Police is committed to dismantling drug networks and making the state drug-free, following the directions of Hon’ble CM Bhagwant Mann.
On August 7, Punjab Police conducted a massive state-level operation named ‘Operation Eagle V’ to target drug hotspots across Punjab. The operation was supervised by Range ADGPs/IGPs/DIGs and CPs/SSPs in each police district. Over 500 police teams with 4000 personnel inspected 512 identified drug hotspots, apprehended 82 suspicious individuals, and registered 61 FIRs. The operation resulted in the seizure of 270 grams of heroin, Rs 15210 in drug money, 1868 intoxicant tablets, 74 kg of poppy husk, 2 kg of ganja, and a substantial quantity of lahan and licit liquor.
Last week, Punjab Police seized over Rs 1.07 crore in drug money and apprehended two operatives of foreign-based top drug smugglers Gurjant Singh alias Bholu and Kinderbir Singh alias Sunny Dyal. The arrested individuals were identified as Dilbag Singh from village Lohka in Tarn Taran and Kamaldeep Singh from Patti in Tarn Taran. Police teams also recovered a money counting machine, two mobile phones, and impounded their Maruti Swift car.
DGP Gaurav Yadav mentioned that the Counter Intelligence Amritsar received intel inputs that foreign-based drug smugglers Gurjant Bholu and Sunny Dyal are running an organized crime syndicate involved in drug trafficking and illegal weapons distribution across the state. They have tasked their operatives to collect drug money and send it using the Hawala route.
