Punjab Police Arrest Gulab Singh, Key Figure in 77kg Heroin Smuggling Case
Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], August 17: In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police have arrested Gulab Singh, a major drug smuggler involved in a 77kg heroin recovery case. This was announced by the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Saturday.
About a year ago, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Fazilka had busted two cross-border drug smuggling rackets, arresting four traffickers and recovering 77.8kg of heroin and three pistols. The consignment had arrived via the riverine route. Two cases were registered, and Gulab Singh was wanted in both.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that Gulab Singh played a pivotal role in delivering 36kg of the contraband and maintaining connections with Pakistan-based smugglers. His arrest is expected to significantly disrupt the smuggling network and prevent future trafficking activities.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Faridkot, Pragya Jain, shared that the arrest was the result of a meticulous operation involving multiple police teams. Gulab Singh was apprehended at a bus stand in village Rupyianwali after being on the run for a year. He had arranged for divers to retrieve the heroin and weapons and was in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers via various apps.
Further financial investigations are underway to trace the money trail and freeze assets acquired through illicit drug proceeds.
