Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit Meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi

New Delhi [India], June 26: Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to discuss important issues in Punjab and Chandigarh. The meeting took place at the new Parliament building and was described as warm and cordial.

According to an official release from the Punjab Raj Bhavan, the Governor informed the Prime Minister about the key issues concerning Punjab and Chandigarh.

Punjab Minister Baljit Kaur’s Announcement

Earlier, on Tuesday, Punjab Minister of Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, Baljit Kaur, held a press conference regarding the Ashirwad Scheme. She announced that Rs 34 crore has been released to beneficiaries in seven districts of Punjab. The scheme provides Rs 51,000 to girls from SC and other categories for their marriages.

Kaur stated, “About Rs 34 crore has been released to seven districts of Punjab for girls belonging to SC and other categories. Orders have been issued to ensure that this amount reaches all the girls by June 30.” The districts include Firozpur, Patiala, Barnala, and Gurdaspur, among others.

The Ashirwad Scheme, which was extended to Christian girls in 1997, was renamed on January 26, 2004. The monetary aid was increased from Rs 5100 to Rs 6100 for SC/Christian girls and daughters of widows of any caste at the time of their marriages.
