Punjab Congress Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring Criticizes AAP Over Gangster’s Jail Interview

Chandigarh [India], July 11: Punjab Congress Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab. This comes after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report suggested that jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi gave a TV interview from Bathinda jail in 2023.

Background

Lawrence Bishnoi is a jailed gangster accused in the murder case of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala. Moosewala was murdered on May 29, 2022, in Mansa village, Punjab. He was also active in politics and had contested the Punjab assembly polls from Mansa on a Congress ticket but was defeated.

Warring’s Criticism

Warring expressed his concerns on social media, questioning how a gangster could give an interview from inside a jail. He stated, “The people of Punjab demand answers, @AAPPunjab. How is it possible for a gangster to give an interview from inside a jail? How can the public feel safe when such liberties are afforded to murderers?”

He further claimed that ‘dark days’ are looming for Punjab, saying, “We cannot expect justice for Sidhu Moosewala from a government where gangsters hold such power over the administration. Law and order have deteriorated severely, and dark days are looming for Punjab.”

Current Status

The SIT is investigating two TV interviews of Bishnoi, reportedly given to private channels in 2023 while he was in Bathinda jail. Bishnoi is currently incarcerated in Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail following a drug seizure case.
