New Delhi [India], August 6: Amid the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, Punjab Congress chief and Lok Sabha MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring raised concerns about the safety of Indians in Bangladesh. Warring said, “Many people are stuck in Bangladesh…It is time to take action…He didn’t give any information regarding how many people are evacuated, how many people are stuck there and whether Indians in Bangladesh are safe there or not?… The public of the nation wants to know about the situation in Bangladesh and what the government is doing to ensure the safety of Indians in Bangladesh…”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar assured that the government is in close contact with the Indian community in Dhaka. He informed the Lok Sabha that there are an estimated 19,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh, of which about 9000 are students. The bulk of the students returned to India in July.
