Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann Urges Mass Tree Planting to Fight Pollution

Hoshiarpur (Punjab), August 6: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann called on people to turn tree planting into a mass movement to combat environmental pollution and increase the state’s green cover. Speaking at a state-level Van Mahotsav event, Mann emphasized the importance of following the teachings of Gurbani to protect the environment.

Mann highlighted Punjab’s pioneering carbon credit scheme, which aims to reduce global warming. He distributed Rs 1.75 crore to 818 farmers in Hoshiarpur as part of this initiative. The scheme, based on the ‘Polluter Pays Principle,’ compensates those working to reduce carbon emissions.

Mann also discussed the state’s efforts to improve irrigation, including the construction of the New Kandi Canal and a 206 MW dam at Dhar Kalan. He announced the Malwa Canal project, which will benefit nearly two lakh acres of land.

Criticizing Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, Mann accused him of misleading the public and committing unforgivable sins against the state. He assured that the government is gathering evidence to bring the culprits of the sacrilege incident to justice.

Mann also mentioned the ‘Sarkar Tuhaade Dwaar’ initiative, which brings government services directly to villages and towns. Cabinet Ministers Bram Shanker Jimpa and Lal Chand Kataruchak, and Lok Sabha MP Raj Kumar Chabbewal were also present at the event.
