Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Approves Prosecution of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh

Punishment Sought for 2015 Sacrilege Cases

Advocate Jitendra Khurana Speaks Out

In Chandigarh, Punjab, Advocate Jitendra Khurana, representing Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, criticized Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s decision to approve the prosecution of his client in the 2015 sacrilege cases. Khurana demanded that the real culprits be punished, emphasizing that a CBI investigation found no involvement of Dera Sacha Sauda followers or Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Despite this, the Punjab government transferred the case to the SIT after the CBI filed a closure report.

Supreme Court Lifts Stay

The Supreme Court recently lifted a stay imposed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on proceedings against Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan issued a notice to Singh regarding the Punjab government’s appeal against the High Court’s stay. The sacrilege cases, filed after incidents in Bargari, Faridkot district, involve the alleged desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib.

Legal Proceedings Continue

Advocate Khurana described the prosecution permission as a normal legal procedure, not unique to this case. The cases against Ram Rahim relate to the 2015 sacrilege incidents in Faridkot, where parts of the Guru Granth Sahib were found scattered. Ram Rahim is currently serving a 20-year sentence for rape and has been convicted of murder.
