Panchkula, Haryana: Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar’s Stand on Chandigarh Land Allocation

On November 14, Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar expressed his opposition to the central government’s decision to allocate 10 acres of land in Chandigarh to Haryana for constructing its Vidhan Sabha complex. Jakhar urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider and cancel this decision, emphasizing the emotional connection Punjabis have with Chandigarh.

Concerns Over Punjab’s Interests

Jakhar highlighted that all political parties in Punjab are united on this issue, but he criticized Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for weakening Punjab’s claim by supporting Haryana’s request during a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Jakhar questioned why Punjabis should suffer due to the chief minister’s stance.

Appeal to BJP Leadership

Jakhar also addressed a press conference, stating that the decision contradicts the Prime Minister’s efforts for Punjab’s welfare. He requested BJP Chief JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to relieve him from his position as state BJP President, citing the party’s lack of success in Punjab’s Lok Sabha elections.
