Punjab and Haryana High Court Orders Removal of Shambhu Border Barricades
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has instructed the Haryana government to remove the barricades at the Shambhu border within one week. This decision follows a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Uday Pratap, who argued that the barricades were causing significant inconvenience to daily commuters.
Advocate Uday Pratap stated, “The court has ordered that the unlawful barricading at Shambhu border by Haryana should be removed within one week.” He explained that the barricades were initially set up by the Haryana government to maintain public order during the farmers’ protests.
The farmers’ protests were led by Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), who called on farmers from across the country to gather in the national capital. Their demands included a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, pensions for farmers and farm laborers, a farm debt waiver, and no increase in electricity tariffs.
The court found the barricading to be unlawful and ordered its removal to ensure that commuters are not inconvenienced.
