Pune Residents Threaten to Boycott Elections Over Civic Issues

As the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, residents of South Pune are voicing their frustration over unresolved civic issues. Scheduled for November 20, the elections have prompted over 2.5 lakh residents to threaten a boycott unless their demands for better amenities are met. The community is dissatisfied with inadequate sewage systems, inconsistent water supply, and poorly maintained roads. Despite numerous complaints, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has not addressed these concerns, leaving residents feeling neglected.

A local resident shared, “We have been living in this area for the last four years, and despite promises from builders, we still face issues like buying water from tankers.” To express their dissatisfaction, residents have displayed banners with slogans like “No Water, No Vote” and “No Infra, No Tax” to capture the attention of politicians campaigning for the upcoming elections.

The protest underscores the community’s patience wearing thin and their demand for the government to resolve these issues before expecting their participation in the elections. The Maharashtra assembly elections are set for November 20, with results for all 288 constituencies to be announced on November 23. In previous elections, the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Congress have been key players.
