Puducherry Schools Closed for Classes 1-8 Due to Protest Against Electricity Tariff Hike

The Puducherry Directorate of School Education has announced a holiday for classes 1 to 8 in both government and private schools on Wednesday. This decision comes in response to a protest organized by the INDI alliance against the ruling BJP-NR Congress coalition government.

The protest aims to demand the cancellation of recent hikes in electricity tariffs. A complete blockade will be held from 6 am to 6 pm, affecting public transport and shops in rural areas. Heavy police security will be present to maintain order.

Classes for standards 9 to 12 will continue as usual. The protest will also impact areas such as Thiramalaiadigal Road, Kamaraj Statue Junction, Indira Gandhi Square, and Rajiv Gandhi Square, where the INDI alliance is actively demonstrating against the rise in electricity charges.

The power tariff increase has led to charges rising from 40 paise to 75 paise per unit, causing widespread discontent among residents.
