PTI Postpones Protest in Islamabad After Court Reserves Verdict
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) postponed its protest on Friday in Islamabad after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) reserved its verdict on PTI’s petition requesting permission to hold the protest. PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan urged everyone to participate in peaceful protests across the country, demanding the release of incarcerated PTI leaders, maintaining peace, and protesting against inflation.
Justice Saman Rifat presided over the hearing of the petition submitted by PTI leader Amir Mughal. The Islamabad administration rejected the party’s request for a protest on July 26, citing security concerns. The state counsel highlighted the tense security situation and the implementation of Section 144 in Islamabad, which prohibits public gatherings.
Justice Rifat questioned the relevance of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) sit-in to the PTI protest and why PTI could not be granted permission. AG Shaukat responded that Section 144 had been imposed across Islamabad, and no political gatherings were allowed.
The Punjab Home Department issued an order prohibiting all political assemblies from July 26-28, citing security threats and the need to maintain public peace. The Islamabad district administration also emphasized that Section 144 was in effect and no rallies or protests would be permitted.
The court reserved its decision, and the situation remains uncertain.
