PTI Plans Protest at D-Chowk During SCO Summit in Islamabad

On October 15, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is set to hold a protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, coinciding with the start of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. This decision was made following a PTI political committee meeting. Sheikh Waqas Akram, PTI’s central information secretary, announced the protest on social media, emphasizing it would be ‘powerful’.

PTI has called off protests in Punjab and demanded the release of its workers, leaders, and Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) detained there. Akram accused the government of unlawful raids and arrests, claiming that PTI chairman Imran Khan’s life is threatened by the government’s actions, which have deprived him of basic human rights.

Akram stated that if Imran Khan is not granted access to basic rights, family, and party leaders, the entire nation would protest on October 15. Meanwhile, the SCO Summit will take place in Islamabad from October 15-16.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif criticized PTI’s protest plans, likening them to the 2014 sit-in that disrupted the country during a Chinese president’s visit. He vowed not to allow a repeat of such events, emphasizing the negative impact on Pakistan’s image and economy.
