PTI Loses Contact with Lawmakers Before Key Vote in Pakistan
In Islamabad, Pakistan, twelve lawmakers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, including two senators and ten members of the National Assembly, have reportedly lost contact with the party. This development comes just before a crucial vote on constitutional amendments. Opposition leader Omar Ayub confirmed the loss of communication with seven members, while PTI chairman Barrister Gohar reported losing contact with two senators.
The lawmakers who are out of contact include Chaudhry Ilyas, Aslam Ghuman, Riaz Fatyana, Mukhtar Hussain, Aurangzeb Kachhi, Murad Zeeshan Khan, Aniqa Mehdi, and Zain and Zahoor Qureshi. Earlier, PTI’s political committee announced its decision to abstain from the voting process in both legislative chambers. The committee also plans to protest against PTI members who participate in the voting.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan expressed concerns that two senators, Zarqa Taimur and Faisal Saleem, might vote against the party’s policy. Meanwhile, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that the draft of the constitutional package would be presented to the federal cabinet for approval. Proposals from JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman have been included in the draft.
