PTI Leader Omar Ayub’s Resignation Rejected by Party Members
Islamabad [Pakistan], June 29: The members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party have decided not to accept the resignation of their Secretary-General, Omar Ayub Khan. They expressed complete trust in his leadership, despite his desire to focus on his role as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan.
Omar Ayub had tendered his resignation on June 22, which was accepted by PTI founder Imran Khan. However, the PTI lawmakers unanimously approved a resolution for Omar to continue his services as Secretary-General. The resolution also condemned reports of a potential forward bloc within the party, stating that all members are united under the leadership of the party founder and lifetime chairman.
In another development, PTI senior leader Sher Afzal Marwat demanded the resignation of Shibli Faraz from party positions and as Leader of the Opposition in the Senate. Marwat has been in conflict with Faraz and other party leaders, accusing them of not allowing him to meet PTI founder Imran Khan.
Additionally, 27 PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) lawmakers considered resigning from the National Assembly in protest against the party’s top leadership. They expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership’s efforts to secure the release of Imran Khan from jail.
