PTI Convoy Heads to Swabi for Rally on Imran Khan’s Call

On August 4, convoys of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers, led by Sindh Provincial President Haleem Adil Sheikh, departed from Karachi to hold a rally in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on August 5. This rally is in response to a call from PTI founder Imran Khan.

In a post on X, PTI stated, “We are leaving Karachi on the call of Imran Khan, convoys from all over Sindh will join us and our halt will be in Swabi.” Haleem Adil Sheikh added, “Our captain has given a call. PTI supporters will be joining the convoy while they head to Karachi.”

The PTI leaders shouted slogans calling for the release of former Pakistan PM Imran Khan. Another post indicated that the convoy from Karachi was heading towards Hyderabad.

PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced the Swabi rally after the party was not permitted to hold public gatherings in Punjab or Islamabad. PTI leaders, including former National Assembly member Asad Qaiser and MNA Shahram Khan Tarakai, inspected the cricket ground area in Shahmansoor Town for the public meeting.

Asad Qaiser stated, “We have planned to organise a record gathering and we enjoy massive support of the people.” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Irrigation Minister Aqibullah Khan mentioned that preparations were ongoing, with PTI activists working round the clock. Adviser to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Industries, Commerce, and Technical Education Abdul Karim said various committees were formed to ensure the gathering’s success.

Imran Khan, who served as Pakistan’s Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022, has been in Adiala Jail since August 2023 on multiple charges. Although some of his sentences were suspended, new charges related to the sale of state gifts have kept him and his wife in prison. Protests erupted across Pakistan after his arrest on May 9, 2023.
