PTI Awaits Permission for Karachi Protest Rally Amidst Rawalpindi Ban
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has not yet received permission to hold a protest rally in Karachi on Sunday. The Karachi Commissioner will make a decision after consulting with deputy commissioners and SSPs of East and South districts.
PTI, founded by Imran Khan, announced the rally from Karachi Press Club to Mazar-e-Quaid to enforce the Supreme Court’s order on reserved seats. PTI’s city president, Raja Azhar, emphasized that the Supreme Court’s decision confirmed the reserved seats belonged to PTI.
In Rawalpindi, the provincial government has banned public gatherings and deployed paramilitary forces to prevent PTI’s planned protest. Despite PTI leaders’ determination to proceed, heavy security measures, including roadblocks, have been implemented.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has submitted petitions to the Supreme Court to stay its July 12 order on reserved seats. The court’s detailed judgment declared PTI eligible for seats reserved for women and minorities.
