PTI Allowed to Hold Rally in Lahore with Strict Conditions
The district administration of Lahore has permitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold a rally in Kahna, Lahore, following directives from the high court. The deputy commissioner issued a no objection certificate (NOC) with 43 conditions, including a time limit from 3 pm to 6 pm.
One condition requires Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to publicly apologize for his remarks during a previous rally. Additionally, individuals under trial for hate speech are barred from participating. The NOC also prohibits anti-state slogans, the hoisting of Afghan flags, and the presence of Afghan paid manpower.
PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan urged the administration not to create obstacles for rally participants and encouraged peaceful participation. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently in Adiala Jail, described the rally as a ‘do or die’ situation and expressed optimism about its success.
The party has prepared a container for Ali Amin Gandapur to travel from Swabi to Lahore. Heavy machinery has been deployed to remove barriers on the route. The Lahore High Court directed PTI to submit a rally request to the deputy commissioner, who was ordered to decide by 5 pm.
The government plans to arrest 3,700 suspects wanted in May 9 riot cases during the rally. Lahore police will use artificial intelligence and modern technology to identify and arrest these individuals.
PTI has faced challenges in holding rallies due to security concerns. Despite this, they managed to hold a public gathering in Islamabad on September 8, which led to a crackdown on party leaders for allegedly breaching the NOC and the ‘Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill, 2024.’
