PT Usha Urges for Yoga’s Inclusion in Asian Games
New Delhi, India – PT Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association, has made a strong case for including Yoga in the Asian Games. In a heartfelt letter to Raja Randhir Singh, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, she emphasized the importance of Yoga for physical and mental health.
Usha noted that the world has embraced Yoga, thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. She mentioned the overwhelming response to the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrated on June 21. Usha believes that India, as the spiritual home of Yoga, should lead the effort to include it in major sports events like the Asian Games and eventually the Olympics.
She highlighted that the Louvre Museum in Paris will offer Yoga sessions ahead of the Olympics next month, showing the global acceptance of Yoga. Usha also mentioned the support from Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, who sees the inclusion of Yoga in the Asian Games as a step towards its Olympic debut.
Usha pointed out that Yoga has already been part of the Khelo India Games and the National Games in Goa, which included Mallakhambh and Yogasanas. She is confident that the Olympic Council of Asia will consider her proposal favorably.
