PT Usha Arrives in Paris to Support Indian Athletes at 2024 Olympics
Paris [France], July 24: PT Usha, the president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), has arrived in Paris to cheer on the Indian athletes for the upcoming 2024 Olympics. Team India shared a picture of her arrival on social media, expressing excitement for her support.
The Indian team consists of 112 athletes competing in 16 different sports. The Olympics will run from July 26 to August 11. India aims to surpass its previous tally of seven medals from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Key Athletes and Events
Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic and World champion in javelin throw, will lead a 29-member athletics team. The shooting team, with 21 members, is the largest India has ever sent to the Olympics. Archers Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai will be the first to compete on July 25.
India’s first chance at a medal will be in the mixed team air rifle event on July 27. Teams Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan and Arjun Babuta/Ramita Jindal will compete. Manu Bhaker will participate in two individual pistol events and the 10m air pistol mixed team competition.
Other notable athletes include PV Sindhu in badminton, Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting, and Lovlina Borgohain in boxing. Nikhat Zareen, a two-time world champion, will make her Olympic debut in boxing.
