New Delhi, India – In a significant move, PT Usha, President of the India Olympic Association (IOA), announced new benefits for ex-Olympians. These include medical insurance, pensions, and other support measures.

Honoring GS Randhawa

On International Olympic Day, PT Usha honored GS Randhawa, a gold medalist in the 1962 Asian Games decathlon. Usha expressed her happiness in meeting Randhawa and emphasized the importance of remembering and supporting ex-Olympians.

New Initiatives

Usha shared her motivation for these initiatives, recalling an encounter with archery legend Limba Ram, who arrived at the IOA office in a wheelchair. This inspired her to propose medical and insurance policies for ex-Olympians. Additionally, current Olympians will receive Rs 2 lakhs as token money when they participate in the Olympics.

Support from GS Randhawa

GS Randhawa praised Usha’s efforts, expressing pride and delight in the new initiatives. He highlighted the government’s commitment to providing the best facilities for young athletes.

Limba Ram’s Achievements

Limba Ram, a three-time Olympian, brought Indian archery into the spotlight with his remarkable achievements, including a gold medal in the 1989 Asian Archery Championships. He received the Arjuna Award in 1991 and the Padma Shri in 2012.

Preparations for Paris 2024 Olympics

PT Usha also discussed preparations for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, expressing hope that India will win more medals than in previous games. She assured that the IOA has provided all necessary facilities for the athletes, including accommodation, medical support, and mental wellness specialists.

The Summer Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11 this year.
