Protests in Uttar Pradesh Over Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

Hindu organizations and residents in various parts of Uttar Pradesh, India, held protest marches on Sunday in response to attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. In Varanasi and Ayodhya, people took to the streets to express their concerns.

Statements from Leaders

Former BJP leader Pandit Sunil Bharala stated, “The Hindu minority in Bangladesh is under threat at the moment. The temples and mutts are not secured and at night they are guarding it. Our daughters are also not safe. I condemn these attacks and appeal to the Bangladesh interim government to protect them. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a strong stand on it. There is anger in the country. India should take a strong decision on this issue if this continues.”

Global Protests

Earlier, large crowds gathered outside the Houses of Parliament in London and the White House in Washington to protest the alleged violence against minority Hindus and other groups in Bangladesh following the resignation and departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Efforts for Interfaith Harmony

Jamaat-e-Islami leaders visited the Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka with Hindu leaders to foster interfaith harmony. They emphasized that the country belongs to all its citizens, regardless of religion, and everyone has equal rights. They highlighted the importance of treating people with respect and dignity.

Political Situation in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is facing a fluid political situation with Sheikh Hasina tendering her resignation on August 5 amid mounting protests. The protests, led mainly by students demanding an end to a quota system for government jobs, evolved into anti-government demonstrations. Recently, an interim government was formed, with Nobel laureate economist Muhammad Yunus, 84, as the country’s chief advisor.
