Protests in Kolkata: TMC’s Kunal Ghosh Criticizes Left Parties Amidst Doctors’ Strike

In Kolkata, West Bengal, a protest march is being held by doctors seeking justice for the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh has accused left parties of exploiting the situation. He stated that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is actively engaging with protestors to resolve the issue, but criticized the left for encouraging a hunger strike among students.

Ghosh warned that if the strike continues under leftist influence, affecting patient care, patients may be advised to file FIRs against the doctors. The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front organized a 21 km protest march, with widespread participation, demanding justice for ‘Abhaya’. The hunger strike, now in its 15th day, is part of their call for justice and healthcare reform.

The incident has led to political tensions between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the state government, with the BJP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The West Bengal government has invited junior doctors to meet with the Chief Minister on October 21 at Nabanna to discuss the situation.
