Protests Erupt in Yasin Valley Over Delayed BISP Payments

In Yasin Valley, located in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan (PoGB), residents are facing difficulties due to a malfunction in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) system. This issue has prevented beneficiaries from accessing their payments for four days, leading to widespread frustration.

Protests and Frustration

Account holders of BISP organized a protest, expressing their dissatisfaction with the lack of access to their funds. A protestor stated, “It has been four days now, and no beneficiary has received any payments in their accounts. The government has given no assurances and no one is giving answers to our questions.”

Challenges Faced by Beneficiaries

Many beneficiaries rely on BISP for their basic needs. However, the system’s failure has left them without support. A local leader highlighted the challenges, noting that people travel long distances to resolve payment issues, only to return home disappointed. The BISP authorities have provided only one device to manage accounts for 10,000 beneficiaries, causing long wait times and frustration.
