Protests Erupt in Shimla Over Alleged Illegal Construction of Sanjauli Mosque

A large number of people gathered outside the Sanjauli Mosque in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, to protest against its alleged illegal construction. The protestors included locals, BJP party workers, and members of Hindu organizations. They were seen raising slogans and holding the tricolour flag.

Demands for Demolition

Ankush Chauhan, a BJP worker, demanded the demolition of the mosque, calling it illegal. He stated, “This mosque has been built illegally. The four floors of the mosque are illegal. If we construct anything illegally, it is immediately demolished. It has been 10 years, but no action has been taken on the mosque. This illegal mosque should be demolished.”

Community Involvement

Chauhan emphasized that the entire Hindu community was present at the protests, stating, “The entire Hindu, Sanatani community is protesting. It has nothing to do with BJP or Congress. Hindu Samaj is fighting against this.” He also mentioned that the protest was triggered by an incident where a Hindu man was attacked by some Muslim men, resulting in injuries.

Government’s Stance

Himachal Pradesh Minister Anirudh Singh pointed out that the Muslim community has peacefully coexisted in the state for generations. However, he expressed concern over the recent influx of people from other states and emphasized the need for proper verification of newcomers to prevent security risks. Singh stated, “There is no difference between Hindus and Muslims among those coming from other states. The real concern is that we must verify those coming to Himachal Pradesh to prevent any security risks.”

Singh also noted the arrival of individuals from other countries and suggested the need for a thorough investigation into their backgrounds. He stressed that the issue is about ensuring lawful actions and proper verification, not about religious differences.
