Badlapur, Maharashtra, August 20: The town of Badlapur in Maharashtra witnessed massive protests following the alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls at a local school. Enraged residents, demanding justice, began pelting stones at the school where the incident occurred, leading to a chaotic situation that required police intervention.

Authorities used tear gas and other measures to control the crowd and restore order. The police managed to apprehend the individuals responsible for the stone-throwing, who are now in custody at the local police station. The investigation into the assault case is ongoing, with efforts to maintain peace in the community.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered a high-level probe into the incident and announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case. He assured that those found guilty would face strict action. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also ordered the formation of an SIT, headed by Inspector General of Police-level senior IPS officer Arti Singh.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed the state’s outrage over the incident and urged for the approval of the Maharashtra Shakti Criminal Law to prevent such incidents in the future. She criticized societal attitudes towards women’s safety and called for immediate action.

Earlier, a massive protest was held at Badlapur Railway Station, where protesters also pelted stones at the police. Heavy security has been deployed to control the crowd. The Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer stated that local trains were stopped at Badlapur railway station due to the protests.
