Thane (Maharashtra) [India], August 20: Protests broke out in Badlapur after the alleged sexual assault of two minor girls at a local school. Angry residents blocked train tracks and pelted stones, leading to police intervention with lathi charges and tear gas.

Police and Government Response

Government Railway Police Commissioner Ravindra Shisve confirmed that the tracks have been cleared and train operations will resume soon. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the incident and announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IG rank officer Arti Singh. He also ordered the suspension of several police officers for delayed action.

High-Level Investigation

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered a high-level probe and assured strict action against those found guilty. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also expressed their outrage, calling for stringent measures.

Community Outrage

Residents, dressed in black, protested at Badlapur Railway Station. The police have arrested one suspect and are continuing their investigation to ensure justice and maintain peace in the community.
