Protest in Gilgit City: Contractors Demand Action Against Corrupt Officials

In Gilgit City, public contractors gathered outside the Public Works Department office to protest against alleged corruption. They claimed that officials were awarding tenders without following proper procedures, leaving many contractors without opportunities.

The protest took place on Tuesday, with contractors voicing their frustration over the lack of transparency. One contractor stated, “We don’t understand how these rules are different for us and them. We urge the chief secretary to take the right action and remove these corrupt officials immediately.”

Another contractor mentioned that contracts for developmental projects were announced in newspapers, but when they inquired, they were told the contracts were canceled. However, they later found out the contracts had already been given to someone else. The contractors demanded immediate action against the corrupt officials, emphasizing that they were not ready to tolerate such unfair practices.

One contractor also mentioned, “They are doing all this corruption by blaming the CM of PoGB, but we don’t think that is the case. If the CM is involved, we only believe in the chief secretary for help.”
