Protap Saikia’s School in Assam Offers Free Education to Poor Children

Jyoti Protap Gyanmarg Bidyalay, located in Jorhat, Assam, is a private school providing free education to children from poor families. The school was founded in 2021 by Protap Saikia, a local businessman who faced financial difficulties in accessing education himself.

Modern Facilities

The school, spread over six bighas of land, features modern educational facilities such as digital classrooms, computer labs, robotic labs, a medical unit, and a Guru Griha (worship home). It also offers classes up to Class 12 and currently has around 210 students.

Traditional Arts and Culture

Students at the school can learn traditional Assamese arts, with teachers for yoga, Satriya dance, and Bihu dance. The school environment is enriched with paintings of renowned personalities, national parks, rivers, and textbook illustrations on the walls.

Community Impact

Protap Saikia invested around Rs 5 crore to establish the school, using his savings and land to form a trust. The school is managed by the Jyoti Protap Education Trust. Biju Kumar Sarma, the school’s coordinator, and Silpi Kakoti, a science teacher, emphasized their commitment to providing the best education and teaching Assamese culture.

Nikumoni Bora Hazarika, a parent, expressed her gratitude for the free education provided to her child.
