Priyanshu Rajawat and Indian Doubles Team Shine at Canada Open
Young Indian shuttler Priyanshu Rajawat has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Canada Open badminton tournament. On Friday, he defeated Japan’s Takuma Obayashi, the world number 33, with scores of 21-19 and 21-11 in a match that lasted 38 minutes.
In the quarterfinals, Priyanshu will face Anders Antonsen, the world number four and top-seed player.
Women’s Doubles Success
In the women’s doubles competition, the Indian pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also made it to the quarterfinals. They defeated Denmark’s Natasja P Anthonisen and Netherlands’ Alyssa Tirtosentono with scores of 21-13 and 21-14.
Treesa and Gayatri will next compete against the Chinese Taipei pair of Hsieh Pei Shan and Hung En-Tzu.
Mixed Results in Women’s Singles
India had a tough time in the women’s singles category. Anupama Upadhyaya lost to Canada’s Michelle Li with scores of 14-21, 21-17, and 13-21. Tanya Hemanth was defeated by Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan with scores of 21-11 and 21-13 in the second round.
The Canada Open is taking place in Calgary from July 2 to July 7.
