Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Criticizes Uttar Pradesh’s New Social Media Policy

New Delhi [India], August 29: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the new social media policy of the Uttar Pradesh Government in a post on X. She questioned how the policy will be used to silence critics, preventing influencers from discussing certain issues online.

Gandhi asked, “In which category will the voices of women seeking justice fall in the social media policy of the Uttar Pradesh government? In which category will the questions raised in the 69000 teacher recruitment reservation scam fall?”

On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the state’s Digital Media Policy, which includes payments to influencers for promoting welfare schemes. The policy covers platforms like X, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, with different payment tiers for each.

Gandhi claimed the policy would silence critics of the BJP government, adding, “In which category would exposing the BJP government by BJP leaders and MLAs fall?” She further stated that influencers face the threat of jail if they don’t follow the guidelines, calling the policy a way to suppress the truth.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad said, “Today, policy is being made for social media, Instagram… Now they will be regulated and they will also be given advertisements. A lot of policies have been made.” The minister spoke after a state cabinet meeting that approved 13 proposals, including scholarship hikes for Sanskrit students.
