On October 28, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited Nilgiri college in Tamil Nadu to meet with students as she launched her election campaign for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-elections. This seat was vacated by her brother, Rahul Gandhi, who was also elected from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.

Priyanka Gandhi’s Candidature

The Congress party approved Priyanka Gandhi’s candidature on October 15, following the announcement of the bypoll schedule by the Election Commission of India. After filing her nomination on October 26, she wrote an open letter to the people of Wayanad, expressing her commitment to the constituency.

In her letter titled “My Dear Sisters and Brothers of Wayanad,” Priyanka Gandhi expressed her dedication to working closely with the people, especially women and tribal communities. She promised to build upon her brother’s work and represent the people’s needs in Parliament.

Priyanka Gandhi emphasized addressing issues affecting tribal communities and creating new opportunities for women. She also highlighted the importance of protecting Wayanad’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Wayanad will vote on November 13, alongside bye-elections in 47 assembly seats across 15 states. The first phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand will also occur on the same day.
