Priyanka Gandhi to Contest Wayanad Bye-Elections

Priyanka Gandhi, the Congress General Secretary and United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate, is set to file her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bye-elections on October 23. She recently met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to seek his guidance and blessings for her campaign.

Support from Congress Leaders

Priyanka will be accompanied by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Party President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi during her nomination filing in Kalpetta, Wayanad. A roadshow is planned to start at 11 AM, with the nomination filing scheduled for noon.

Congress and Opposition Candidates

The Congress approved Priyanka’s candidature on October 15, following the announcement of the bypoll schedule by the Election Commission of India. Saral Patel has been appointed as the Media Coordinator for Wayanad.

Navya Hariprasad, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, stated that Priyanka Gandhi will face tough competition. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has also announced Sathyan Mokeri as their candidate.

Upcoming Elections

Wayanad will vote on November 13, alongside bye-elections in 47 assembly seats across 15 states. The first phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand will also occur on the same day. The Wayanad seat was vacated by Rahul Gandhi after he was elected to Lok Sabha from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh.
