Priyanka Gandhi to Contest from Wayanad in Upcoming Bypolls
The Election Commission has announced bypolls for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala and the Nanded seat in Maharashtra. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is expected to make her election debut from Wayanad, a seat vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi, who chose to retain Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge confirmed Priyanka’s candidacy in June.
Wayanad will vote on November 13, alongside bye-elections in 47 assembly seats across 15 states and the first phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand. If Priyanka wins, she will join Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, and Sonia Gandhi, a Rajya Sabha member, as the third MP from the Gandhi family in the current Parliament.
Priyanka has maintained strong ties with Amethi and Raebareli, traditional Gandhi family strongholds. She expressed her commitment to representing Wayanad and supporting her brother in Raebareli. Rahul Gandhi assured Wayanad residents of his continued involvement and expressed confidence in Priyanka’s victory.
The election results for Wayanad and other seats will be announced on November 23.
