Omar Abdullah Becomes Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir

On October 16, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a leader from the Congress party, congratulated Omar Abdullah for becoming the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. She also congratulated his cabinet members who took their oaths. Priyanka Gandhi, along with other Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Priyanka Gandhi expressed her gratitude to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for supporting justice and democracy through their votes. She assured that the ‘INDIA’ coalition government will work hard to restore the rights of the people and fulfill their promises.

Historic Moment for Jammu and Kashmir

Omar Abdullah’s appointment marks the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and its reorganization into Union Territories. The National Conference party, along with Congress, secured a total of 48 seats in the recent elections.

New Cabinet Members

Several leaders were sworn in as ministers, including Javed Ahmed Rana, Javid Ahmad Dar, Sakina Itoo, Surinder Kumar Chowdhary, and independent MLA Satish Sharma. The ceremony was attended by many leaders from the INDIA Bloc, such as Akhilesh Yadav, Prakash Karat, Supriya Sule, Kanimozhi, Sanjay Singh, and D Raja.

Jammu and Kashmir had been under presidential rule since 2018, but with the recent elections, a new government has been formed.
