Priyank Kharge Announces Clean Water for 1,138 Villages in Karnataka
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge announced that the Pavagada multi-village water supply program will soon provide clean drinking water to 1,138 villages and 2 towns in Bellary, Chitradurga, and Tumkur districts. The project, initiated by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, is 95% complete.
Kharge, who visited the ongoing works near Pawgad and Kwadigunte in Tumkur district, stated that the project will use Tungabhadra backwater to supply water to 17.21 lakh people. The initiative will cover various taluks including Chilakanahatti, Kudligi, Molakalmuru, Challakere, and Turavanur.
The project, with an outlay of Rs1,852.15 crore, aims to be completed by May 2024. It will provide 85 liters of water per day to rural areas and 135 liters to towns, adhering to international standards. The installation of pipelines and construction of 568 overhead tanks are nearing completion.
Electricity supply approvals for all projects have been received, ensuring that lakhs of people in three districts will get clean water under this mega project.
