Prime Ministers Modi and Oli Meet in New York to Strengthen India-Nepal Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel in New York. This was their first meeting since Oli took office for the third time in July. Oli succeeded Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
Modi had congratulated Oli on his appointment and expressed hope to work closely to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between India and Nepal. The two countries share deep cultural and civilizational ties, with Nepal being a priority partner under India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ Policy.
Since May 2014, there have been 17 high-level exchanges between the two nations. Modi has visited Nepal five times, and Nepalese Prime Ministers have visited India ten times. Indian firms are significant investors in Nepal, and the two countries have robust trade relations.
Modi arrived in New York as part of his three-day visit to the United States. He participated in the Quad Summit and met with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Modi will also address the Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly.
