Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly welcomed by the Indian community in Nigeria as he began his three-nation tour. Upon his arrival in Abuja, PM Modi expressed his delight at the vibrant reception from the Indian diaspora. He shared his experiences on social media, highlighting the joy of the Marathi community in Nigeria over Marathi being recognized as a Classical Language.

During his visit, PM Modi signed a painting by Ritu Agrawal, a member of the Indian community, and expressed his appreciation for the artwork. The Indian diaspora, including Dhirendra Singh Chouhan and Jitendra Pandey, expressed their excitement and pride in meeting the Prime Minister, hoping for strengthened India-Nigeria relations.

PM Modi was also welcomed by Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Minister for Federal Capital Territory, who presented him with the ‘Key to the City’ of Abuja, symbolizing trust and honor. The Prime Minister’s visit aims to enhance strategic ties between India and Nigeria, following an invitation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Upcoming Visits to Brazil and Guyana

Following Nigeria, PM Modi will attend the 19th G20 Summit in Brazil, where India will play a crucial role as a Troika member. The summit will focus on Global South priorities. PM Modi’s final stop will be in Guyana, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in over fifty years. He will address the Guyanese Parliament and engage with the Indian diaspora there.
