Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumdar announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Guyana from November 19-21, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over 50 years. This visit highlights the strong diplomatic ties between India and Guyana, which have existed since 1965.

Strengthening India-Guyana Relations

India and Guyana share a longstanding partnership in health, connectivity, and renewable energy. India has provided Guyana with an ocean-going ferry and two HAL 228 aircraft. Solar lighting has been supplied to 30,000 households, and 800 Guyanese students have studied in India under the ITEC program.

During his visit, PM Modi will hold talks with President Irfaan Ali, address the National Assembly, and engage with the Indian diaspora, which makes up 40% of Guyana’s population. He will also co-chair the second India-CARICOM Summit, focusing on cooperation in healthcare, technology, education, and renewable energy.
