Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Historic Visit to Nassau Coliseum in New York

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, where he will address an enthusiastic crowd of 15,000 members of the Indian diaspora from 42 different states. This event, named ‘Modi and US,’ is a historic occasion as it marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Long Island in 75 years.

Jagdish Sewhani, a member of the event organizing committee, expressed his excitement, saying, ‘It is a historical event in Nassau Coliseum, Long Island, New York. It looks like we are celebrating Diwali here… 15,000 Indian diaspora have come here in New York from 42 different states.’

More than 500 artists are set to perform, showcasing traditional Indian music and dance. Performances will include ‘Yakshagana,’ a traditional folk dance from Karnataka and Kerala, and ‘Parai,’ a musical instrument from Tamil Nadu. Additionally, a group performed Mallakhamb, an acrobatic activity from Maharashtra, outside the venue.

Jaydev Anata of Mallakhamb Federation US stated, ‘We are promoting Mallakhamb in the USA as an acrobatic and gymnastic sport with an objective of getting it into the Olympics. We are using every opportunity to present this to the public.’

Earlier, PM Modi shared pictures of his meeting with the Indian diaspora on social media, expressing his eagerness to participate in the community program. Besides this event, PM Modi will chair key bilateral meetings, attend a CEO Roundtable, and address the Summit of the Future on September 23.
