Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Wayanad, Kerala, on Saturday to review the aftermath of massive landslides that occurred on July 30, claiming over 300 lives in Chooralmala and Mundakkai. He conducted an aerial and on-the-ground survey of the affected sites.

Meeting with Officials

During a review meeting, Modi was joined by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Muhammed Khan, Union Minister Suresh Gopi, and other state officials. The Prime Minister assured all support for the state’s rehabilitation efforts and emphasized the importance of collective efforts.

Rescue and Relief Operations

Modi highlighted that the central government had deployed NDRF, Army, and Air Force teams for rescue and relief operations immediately after the landslides. He expressed his sorrow upon visiting the affected sites and meeting survivors at a relief camp.

Future Actions

The Kerala government has requested the central government to declare the landslides a national disaster. An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has been formed to visit the affected areas and review the situation. The state government has assured immediate assistance to those affected, including a daily allowance for families who lost their livelihood.
