Prime Minister Narendra Modi Visits Landslide Survivors in Wayanad, Kerala

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a relief camp in Wayanad, Kerala, on Saturday to meet survivors of the landslides that occurred on July 30. The landslides in Chooralmala and Mundakkai claimed over 300 lives.

Before visiting the camp, PM Modi conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Muhammed Khan, and Union Minister Suresh Gopi. They landed at SKMJ Higher Secondary School in Kalpetta and then traveled by road to the disaster sites.

During his visit, PM Modi was briefed by Kerala ADGP (law and order) MR Ajith Kumar. He is expected to chair a review meeting with the Chief Minister and other officials later.

The Kerala government has requested the central government to declare the landslides a national disaster. An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) is visiting the affected areas from August 8 to August 10 to review the situation.

The state government has assured immediate assistance to those affected, including relocation support and a daily allowance of Rs. 300 for up to two adult members per family who have lost their livelihood.
